Get Sprayed Part Two – GM High tech Performance March 2004

Here is a great post concerning the install of a direct port nitrous kit into a TPI powered IROC. Keep in mind this motor has been modified with an aftermarket intake (not stock TPI style) and ran 12.914 at 105.40mph on the motor. Best run on the nitrous was 1.35 seconds and 12 mph quicker on a 180hp hit.

Enjoy!

Ram That TPI – GM High Tech Performance July 2003

I did not post part 1 as it was all install and no dyno or track results. This article is focused on how the Holley StealthRam EFI intake can replace a stock TPI setup (on an IROC as in this article) and what dyno and 1/4 mile results it can give. The car put down 330 hp at 5850 and 396 ft-lb TQ at 2850, giving a very nice power curve. The rest of the engine includes TFS G1 heads, 218/228 cam, shorty headers and exhaust, stock 3.23 rear, and 26″ ET streets. Can ran 12.39 at 110.1 mph at the track. Enjoy!

Tuned Port Infection – GM High Tech Performance July 2000

Here is a pair of IROC in my two favorite third gen colors – red and yellow. Both are 350 based, the yellow one features a custom cam and nitrous and runs 12.5 at 114. The red one is mostly stock with a nitrous kit and runs 11.7 at 119mph with an amazing 1.6s short time. Enjoy!

IROC N Roll – High Tech Performance May 1998

Some of you may have heard of Preston Smith and his 9 second IROC – here is an article on how he pushed his car into the 9’s over the years with all the combinations he tried. The 9 second combo consisted of a 305 with forged internals, TFS heads, roller cam, ported factory intake. Vortech V-1 pushing 25lbs of boost through a home made air to water intercooler: 9.95 at 135mph! Enjoy.

IROC Mods III – High Tech Performance March 1998

Here is an article that shows the impact of installing a 125hp nitrous kit onto an L98 Equipped third gen. The kit cost about $600 and dropped the car’s 1/4 mile 1.11 seconds and added about 10 mph to the trap speed (vs. the baseline runs) – 12.45 at 112.1. Sweet!

The Chevrolet 10134338 – Car & Driver 1991

This article comes from the hallowed pages of Car & Driver magazine. Apparently Chevrolet stuck a ZZ1 motor into an IROC and sent it to C&D for testing. They rated the motor at 345hp running through a holley carb and a 5-speed. Car ran 13.5 at 106mph at 3218lbs, indicating that the motor was noted tuned right (probably the Holley) and that it needed a better exhaust and/or fuel system.

Enjoy!

Family Bow Ties – Car Craft January 1987

Here is an article highlighting 4 different Third Gen builds of varying performance levels and also complexity. One car has a 350 with a B&M blower, a V6 with a B&M blower, a big block transplant, and finally an IROC with a 410 SBC that ran 11.1 on nitrous (in 1986!).

Enjoy!
