Seems like a lot of people build up Firebird Formulas, both because of their looks, and also the weight vs. a Trans Am. Here is one that runs in the bottom 10’s. With a 406 ci Motown block, AFR 210 heads, Comp Cams solid roller, Miniram, a T-Trim Vortech pushing out 14 psi, a 5500 rpm converter, and a 9″ with 3.70 gears it has run a best of 10.0 at 140 mph; making about 625 RWHP in the process. Enjoy!
Some of you may have heard of Preston Smith and his 9 second IROC – here is an article on how he pushed his car into the 9’s over the years with all the combinations he tried. The 9 second combo consisted of a 305 with forged internals, TFS heads, roller cam, ported factory intake. Vortech V-1 pushing 25lbs of boost through a home made air to water intercooler: 9.95 at 135mph! Enjoy.
This article, published in an unknown issue of All Chevy highlighted a buildup of a 1991 5 speed TPI Z28. They added a Paxton supercharger, Edelbrock TPI runners, MSD ignition, Borla exhaust, SLP headers, and some other items. Car went from low 15’s to mid 13’s with the changes outlined above.
