Here is an article of how GMHTP swapped out stock manifolds and y-pipe to a Dynomax header system on their 305 TPI Formula. Car picked up 7 rwhp and 12 lb-ft of rwtq. Unfortunately the car did not pick up anything in the 1/4 with the mods. Enjoy!

Here is a GMHTP Project Magnum article (1988 L98 Formula) – focused on exhaust. The article highlights the change from stock parts to SLP headers, new cats, and a SLP cat-back exhaust. Total cost was $1286 and the car picked up12 hp on the dyno. They also changed the stock ignition module and coil to Accel parts and picked up another 4 hp and 4 lb-ft. Clean & Mean – All Chevy
This article, published in an unknown issue of All Chevy highlighted a buildup of a 1991 5 speed TPI Z28. They added a Paxton supercharger, Edelbrock TPI runners, MSD ignition, Borla exhaust, SLP headers, and some other items. Car went from low 15’s to mid 13’s with the changes outlined above.

This article, published in April 1992 highlights a buildup of a 350 TPI engine into a 349hp one using a stock style TPI intake setup and a well tuned combination of other parts. The kit included extrude honed L98 Aluminum heads, a camshaft, headers, extrune honed intake manifolds, and Arizona Speed runners. Car put out 390lbs/ft of TQ at 4200 and 349hp at 5500 when all was done.

Hot Pipes – Car Craft April 1989
This article was published in the July 1987 issue of Car Craft magazine. It details the effect of two different exhaust systems on the Third Gen LG4 engines and what performance gains they experienced. The Edelbrock TES dropped 0.7s off the car’s 0 to 60mph time, the Banks system added 22 RWHP uing a butchered stock cat (dropped 0 to 70mph by 0.93s).

Budget Bird – PHR June 1987
This article is from the June 1987 Popular Hot Rodding that shows a bolt-on parts impact on a (new) 1987 LG4 Firebird Formula. The article shows the impact in both power (RWHP) and also the 1/4 mile performance of Edelbrock tubular headers, 3″ cat, stock TPI exhaust, Performer 3701 EGR intake manifold, and a custom cold air kit. The car picked up 48 hp at 4500rpm and gave a 1/4 mile performance of -1.28s and added 8.4mph!
