This is a great article on the production SLP Firehawk with many large photos, close ups of some parts, and also a performance test – although the car was running pretty bad 13.4 at 106mph.

Motor Trend featured an article in December 1991 featuring two high performance Pontiacs – the SLP Firehawk and the Pontiac Firefox. The Firefox turned out to be a test mule that never made it anywhere – featuring a Corvette IRS, Bartz Al cylinder heads, headers, and some other engine goodies. With the 328hp the car was rated at, it ran 13.5 at 103.2mph; indicating a probable exaggeration of power since the car weighed 3477lbs.

This article coming from Motor Trend highlights a 1991 L98 GTA with the SLP bolt-on package available rom dealerships at that time. This car had the full SLP package – TPI intake runners, Headers, Exhaust, PROM, and CAI. This pushed power up to 266hp and 355lb-ft granting the car 14.1 at 98.8mph capability with an automatic and street tires.

Hot Rod ran this article on the introduction of Street Legal Performance’s (SLP) product line for the TPI powered F-Bodies. Note this article was run in mid 1988 when no one was digging into the TPI motors to make more power.
Quick rundown – with the SLP parts (runners, headers, PROM, exhaust, and cold air intake), power on a 1988 L98 F-Body went up 16lb-ft of TQ at 3600rpm (321 vs 305) and 21hp at 4400rpm (245 vs 224) and increased the hp gain from peak to redline by 50hp! (238 vs 188). The test car ran 14.93 at 93.45mph stock and 14.09 at 99.44mph with the SLP package and the optional oil pan – a decrease of 0.84s and a trap speed increase of 5.99mph. The car also picked up 2.1mpg.
