Trial Formula – GM High Tech Performance January 2002

Seems like a lot of people build up Firebird Formulas, both because of their looks, and also the weight vs. a Trans Am. Here is one that runs in the bottom 10’s. With a 406 ci Motown block, AFR 210 heads, Comp Cams solid roller, Miniram, a T-Trim Vortech pushing out 14 psi, a 5500 rpm converter, and a 9″ with 3.70 gears it has run a best of 10.0 at 140 mph; making about 625 RWHP in the process.  Enjoy!

Primary Target – GM High Tech Performance July 2000

Here is a GMHTP Project Magnum article (1988 L98 Formula) – focused on exhaust. The article highlights the change from stock parts to SLP headers, new cats, and a SLP cat-back exhaust. Total cost was $1286 and the car picked up12 hp on the dyno. They also changed the stock ignition module and coil to Accel parts and picked up another 4 hp and 4 lb-ft. There is a lot of detail on the install process for you home gamers out there. Enjoy!

Learning To Fly – GM High Tech Performance July 2000

Here is an 1989 L98 Formula that has had some good success with the stock style TPI intake setup. With Sportsman II heads, LT4 Hot cam, TPI runners, and exhaust; this car has run 13.43 at 105.54 weighing 3845 lbs. Portly, but a good time and mph considering the rpm restrictive stock style intake setup. Enjoy!

Tuned Port Infection – GM High Tech Performance July 2000

Here is a pair of IROC in my two favorite third gen colors – red and yellow. Both are 350 based, the yellow one features a custom cam and nitrous and runs 12.5 at 114. The red one is mostly stock with a nitrous kit and runs 11.7 at 119mph with an amazing 1.6s short time. Enjoy!

Cest La Z – GM High Tech Performance July 2000

Here is a 1991 Z28 that was given an engine makeover and also looks very good. a GM ZZ4 with TFS heads, Lingenfelter 219/219 cam, Accel SuperRam intake, and exhaust. Car dyno’d at 323 rwhp and 358 ft-lb tq. While the car ran 13.4 at 99 mph, it should be running well into the 12’s at about 112 mph if it was tuned perfectly (about 400 engine hp) – guess they didn’t get it all sorted out before hitting the strip. Enjoy!

Red With Rage – GM High Tech Performance January 1999

Here is probably the scariest looking Camaro RS you might ever see – even in pictures it will suck your headlights out. This ride features a 422ci SBC with TFS heads, solid roller cam, Accel SuperRam intake, Tremec tranny, a TEC-II ECM and a 12 bolt rear. Coming in at over 3500lbs it runs 11.5 at 118mph on the motor and is daily driven! Enjoy!

Trackside Tune-Up – GM High Tech Performance January 1999

Here is a great how-to article that highlights small mods (some free) that dropped 0.6s off a stock 1988 L98 GTA. Mods included MT tires, timing bump, MAF screens, iced intake, air foil, air filter, and FPR. Car ran 14.79 at 94.68 stock and was running 14.19 at 96.88 with the mods mentioned – 0.6s and +2.2mph better for less than $300. Enjoy!

Deranged Droptop – High Tech Performance November 1998

Here is a 1988 305 GTA convertible that was transformed into a low 10 second killer. Starting with a 400 bowtie block, AFR 195 heads, solid roller cam, TPIS Mini Ram intake, DFI, and a nitrous kit; the car responded with an 11.0 on the motor and a 10.20 at 135 on the juice. I’ve seen this car at Englishtown and it flat out flies! Enjoy!
