This article was published in the July 1987 issue of Car Craft magazine. It details the effect of two different exhaust systems on the Third Gen LG4 engines and what performance gains they experienced. The Edelbrock TES dropped 0.7s off the car’s 0 to 60mph time, the Banks system added 22 RWHP uing a butchered stock cat (dropped 0 to 70mph by 0.93s).

This article is from the June 1987 Popular Hot Rodding that shows a bolt-on parts impact on a (new) 1987 LG4 Firebird Formula. The article shows the impact in both power (RWHP) and also the 1/4 mile performance of Edelbrock tubular headers, 3″ cat, stock TPI exhaust, Performer 3701 EGR intake manifold, and a custom cold air kit. The car picked up 48 hp at 4500rpm and gave a 1/4 mile performance of -1.28s and added 8.4mph!

Popular Hot Rodding had an article in June 1990 highlighting Turbo City’s TPI performance system. The kit included a new y-pipe, cat back flowmaster exhaust, K&N air filters, underdrive pulleys, spark plug wires, PROM, and a TPI air foil. While they did not give specifics, the test car, a 1989 5.0TPI convertible with a T5 ran low 14’s with the kit, apparently over a 1 second reduction in ET.

Hot Rod magazine did an article about Paxton Superchargers for the Third Gen cars, covering both the 5.7 TPI and also the V6. The 1988 L98 IROC went 14.90 at 90mph stock to 13.94 at 99.69mph with the Paxton. The 1988 RS went from 19’s (ouch!) to high 16’s with the V6 kit. The 1988 L98 GTA went from a 15.0 at 91mph stock to a 13.67 at 102mph.
