Packaged Performance – PHR June 1990

Popular Hot Rodding had an article in June 1990 highlighting Turbo City’s TPI performance system. The kit included a new y-pipe, cat back flowmaster exhaust, K&N air filters, underdrive pulleys, spark plug wires, PROM, and a TPI air foil. While they did not give specifics, the test car, a 1989 5.0TPI convertible with a T5 ran low 14’s with the kit, apparently over a 1 second reduction in ET.

Street Legal Performance: Hot Rod August 1988

Hot Rod ran this article on the introduction of Street Legal Performance’s (SLP) product line for the TPI powered F-Bodies. Note this article was run in mid 1988 when no one was digging into the TPI motors to make more power.

Quick rundown – with the SLP parts (runners, headers, PROM, exhaust, and cold air intake), power on a 1988 L98 F-Body went up 16lb-ft of TQ at 3600rpm (321 vs 305) and 21hp at 4400rpm (245 vs 224) and increased the hp gain from peak to redline by 50hp! (238 vs 188). The test car ran 14.93 at 93.45mph stock and 14.09 at 99.44mph with the SLP package and the optional oil pan – a decrease of 0.84s and a trap speed increase of 5.99mph. The car also picked up 2.1mpg.
